Value/Color/Painting
CLASS
VALUE refers to lightness and darkness of a shape or area in your artwork.
Learning to see and understand VALUE is important because it is one of the keys to understanding COLOR and creating excitement and visual interest in a painting.

In this two-day class, we will explore these two concepts and apply what you learn to a photo or item that you want to PAINT.
We'll start by doing some quick value exercises to either inform you or remind you:
-
How everyday things look in value
-
Use Sharpies to rearrange pictures and how powerful contrast is
-
Take existing artwork and see how different colors look when they are represented in values
Then:
-
We'll match up colors to their value and learn how to SEE color in value.
-
Work on color mixing (with three primaries), harmonizing, and glazing
-
And you will have the opportunity to apply all that you've learned about value and color to your painting!
